Conference Events
Welcome to the 2012 CATA National Conference!
Quebec City is a spectacular destination, full of history, culture and excitement. In order to help you experience some of what the city and surrounding area has to offer, we have organized two events for Wednesday afternoon. You will not be disappointed; just make sure you’ve got enough energy left for the Welcoming Social!
Private Walking Tour of the Old City – Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 3:45pm to 6:45pm
A two hour personalized walking tour for CATA delegates will take in the sights and sounds of Old City, the truly magnificent walled fortress that became a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1985. The tour is hosted by Les Tours Voir Quebec, an award winning tour company (www.toursvoirquebec.com) and will include the Upper and Lower Towns, La Terrasse Dufferin, Place d’hotel de Ville, a stroll through the quaint Rue du Petit-Champlain (don’t break your neck on the l'escalier Casse-Cou!), and many other points of interest. The experienced guides will answer any questions along the route. The tour will end at the corner of St-Jean and Cote du Palais, at which time you will have two dinner options:
- Chez Ashton (www.chezashton.ca)
Experience the heart attack inducing joy of poutine – by the people that started it all! Enjoy a generous helping of poutine and a burger. Don’t worry - think of all the calories you burned during the tour!
- Paillard Café-Boulangerie (www.paillard.ca)
Founded by Chef Yves Simard in 2006, Paillard has become an institution in Québec, distinguished by its homemade products of the highest quality. Fresh breads, pastries, sandwiches and ice creams are the true stars of this casual dining experience. And don’t even get me started on their macaroons!
Once you are finished your meal, a quick 15 minute walk will bring you back to the hotel (maps will be provided).
COST: $25.00. Includes transportation to the start of the tour (leaves hotel at 3:45pm) and a two hour private tour. Dinner is at delegate’s expense.

Samurai: Masterworks of the Collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller
To evoke the Japanese Samurai, the exhibition delves into the mythical world of these fierce warriors from a country long isolated from the rest of the world. A mysterious and fascinating world of combat, codes of honor, and spectacular armor will be showcased in more than 150 remarkable pieces. The superb armor of Japanese warriors and their horses, as well as helmets and weapons from the Tokugawa era illustrate how the Samurai’s appearance changed over the years. The exhibition also explores the world and the role of these warriors in Japanese history.

And be sure to wear your party shoes, as you will be whisked off to one of Quebec City’s most popular venues for the after party (www.voodoogrill.com/fr/charlotte/). Transportation will be provided.
Stay tuned for more details ...
